Europe Travel Diary- Look Book
We recently returned from our 12 day Italy trip. Since we were traveling with a toddler, we wanted to keep it simple and decided to visit 4 cities. We also took day trips to various places. This blog will be about how we planned our trip and of course what I wore at the trip. Some of the outfits I wore are still available for purchase. Click on the pictures for outfit details
Let's start with the high-level itinerary we followed:
The 4 cities we visited: Rome, Cinque Terre (more of a village), Florence and Naples
We did day trips to Tuscany, Sienna, San Gimignano, Amalfi coast , Capri and Blue Grotto caves.
This was mainly our fly in/out point. We stayed here for 2 nights . We decided to keep the activities limited to visiting the Vatican and walking around the city in the evening. August was super-hot month and Vatican was crowded beyond words. I wore a light cute, polka dotted dress and had my hair up the whole time! Being a spoilt Californian, I almost died in the heat. I think the heat melted some of my body fat cuz I came back 2 pounds lighter!! (Score!!)
Cinque Terre stands for 5 villages. This is a GORGEOUS place. We stayed in Manarola which was the most romantic village amongst the 5. Our home was a quaint hotel- La Torretta Lodge. The views were gorgeous, and staff was super helpful. The weather was pleasant but humid.
My favorite city of all! Beautiful by the day and breathtaking by the night! We did the touristy sightseeing in the city and also visited the Tuscany region one of the days. We visited an amazing family owned winery called Casanova. They served us a 5-course delicious Tuscan lunch along with wine tasting. The winery was beyond gorgeous and had peacocks, hens and geese. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend going to this winery. They also ship wine to the US. Needless to say, we got our quota of Vino for home.
Do not forget to visit Sienna while you are here. It's a medieval town that cannot be missed.
Naples is a very busy port city. There's nothing much to do here, so we did multiple day trips. Our first day trip was to the Amalfi coast. Words cannot express how serene this place is. We had an amazing dinner at the Sensi Restaurant. Great service and lip smacking meal!
We also did a day trip to Capri island and visited the Blue Grotto caves. That was a unique experience! Not to be missed at all.
I cannot emphasize enough to pack light. Traveling in trains with too many items would be no less than a torture. We carried a backpack and a medium size suit case for this trip (Check out my blog for how to pack efficiently). And not to forget, wear comfortable pair of shoes!
